The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has registered a case in Jalandhar against Rajbir Singh Ghuman, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, over allegations of corruption and influence-peddling involving people linked to the Chief Minister’s Office.
Development after Supreme Court order
The development comes a day after the Supreme Court directed the CBI not to take coercive action in the case until the next hearing on January 21, 2027. However, the court refused to stay the FIR or halt the investigation and directed the Punjab Government to cooperate with the probe.
AAP questions ED’s action
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) termed the ED’s move surprising, citing the Supreme Court’s directions to the CBI. The allegations under investigation relate to government transfers and postings, tenders, administrative approvals and other official decisions.
The case follows an October 5 order by the Punjab and Haryana High Court directing the CBI to register a criminal case and investigate the allegations. The CBI subsequently registered an FIR against Ghuman and five others and conducted searches, including at the Chief Minister’s camp office in Chandigarh.
