The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced that it will stage a protest against the Enforcement Directorate (ED) teams at the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) office today, September 24, over the ongoing search operation at the authority’s headquarters.
The party has questioned the timing and manner of the ED action, alleging that the searches are aimed at creating pressure on Punjab government officials ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
AAP leaders claimed that despite the prolonged search operation at the GMADA office, the ED has so far not publicly disclosed any specific findings or evidence recovered from the premises. The ED has not officially released details of its findings from the searches.
“Punjab Will Not Accept BJP’s Pressure Tactics”
AAP has further alleged that the repeated actions of central agencies ahead of elections reflect an attempt to put political pressure on the Punjab government.
The party has accused the BJP-led Centre of trying to interfere with the functioning of the Bhagwant Mann government and has declared that Punjab will not accept what it describes as “pressure politics”.
The ED has not publicly stated that its action is politically motivated. Its ongoing investigation concerns alleged financial irregularities, land acquisition, change-of-land-use approvals and financial concessions involving private companies and GMADA-related transactions.
AAP’s planned protest at the GMADA office is expected to further intensify the political confrontation between the ruling party in Punjab and the BJP-led Centre over the ED searches.
