A letter circulating widely on social media claims that senior Congress leader and Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has been appointed as new president of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee however there is no official announcement from Congress high command confirming Randhawa's appointment as Punjab Congress chief and the report was flagged as “fake news” by Randhawa himself and he also added that "no such letter has been issued by the Congress Party. A complaint regarding the preparation of fake/false letters will also be filed with Punjab DGP."
The viral letter presented as an official communication from Congress leadership states that Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has been given charge of Punjab Congress unit and the document has been widely shared on social media leading to speculation about a leadership change in state.
Verified reports show that Congress leadership has been holding meetings with senior Punjab leaders to discuss party's strategy ahead of 2027 Assembly elections and these discussions have naturally triggered speculation about possible organisational changes however no final decision has been announced regarding post of Punjab Congress president.
Recent reports also quote current Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring dismissing rumours of a leadership change and stating that such decisions rest solely with the party high command.
Media reports have mentioned Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa as one of several senior leaders who could be considered if party decides to make organisational changes and other names have also been discussed in political circles but being a possible contender is not the same as being officially appointed so as of now there has been no confirmation from All India Congress Committee or Congress high command that Randhawa has been made PPCC president.
The viral letter presents an unverified decision as an official order and no corresponding announcement has appeared through official Congress channels or verified party communications while political discussions and internal consultations are common before major organisational decisions but they should not be mistaken for final appointments.
So clearly that claim that Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has been appointed Punjab Congress president through an official order turns out to be completely false as there is no official confirmation from Congress high command and verified reports indicate that leadership consultations are ongoing but no decision on Punjab Congress presidency has been formally announced.
