A report claiming that Jalandhar Traffic Police is expanding CCTV-based e-challan system to nine more intersections from June 1 is not true.

Over the past few hours information has been circulating in media and several platforms claiming that from June 1 e-challans will start being issued at nine additional intersections in Jalandhar, including Shri Guru Ravidas Chowk, Football Chowk, Kapurthala Chowk, Bhagwan Valmiki Chowk, Guru Amardas Chowk, Workshop Chowk, Dr BR Ambedkar Chowk, Model Town Chowk and Chunmun Chowk.

The report also claims that CCTV cameras under Smart City project are expanding their reach and that drivers breaking traffic rules at these intersections would receive automatic e-challans directly on their phones or at their homes and it further also stated that the system would work through the Command and Control Center and that violators jumping red lights would be monitored 24 hours a day.

Along with this the report additionally mentioned that more than one lakh e-challans had already been issued in past nine months at intersections like PAP Chowk, BMC Chowk, BSF Chowk and Guru Nanak Mission Chowk after which the system was allegedly being expanded further in city however after verification it has been found that the claim about the expansion of e-challan system to nine new intersections from June 1 is false.

Sources confirmed that no such new implementation has officially been announced by the Jalandhar Traffic Police so far and the information that has been circulating created confusion among residents and daily commuters especially those regularly travelling through busy city intersections. At present CCTV based e-challan systems are already operational at some selected intersections in the city and cameras installed under Smart City project are being used to monitor traffic movement and certain violations however the viral claim specifically stating that nine more intersections are being added to the system from June 1 is incorrect.

Citizens are advised not to believe unverified reports without official confirmation and before sharing such updates people should always cross-check information from official police sources or government communication channels. Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur also confirmed that the viral information regarding the expansion of CCTV e-challan system to nine new intersections from June 1 is not true.
