Counter Intelligence inspector arrested on Ferozepur-Moga road
Ferozepur police have arrested Inspector Baldev Singh, who was reportedly posted with the Counter Intelligence Faridkot unit, after recovering 3.35 kg of heroin and six pistols from his possession.
The arrest was made by the Ghall Khurd police on September 26 as part of an ongoing campaign against drug trafficking and illegal weapons.
According to the police, the recovery included 3 kg and 350 grams of heroin, six pistols, four magazines, 17 live cartridges, a Hyundai i20 car and six mobile phones.
The arrest comes amid the Punjab government's stated zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and the possession of illegal narcotics.
Police act on secret information
According to the police, the SHO of Ghall Khurd police station received information from an informer on September 26 that Inspector Baldev Singh was allegedly travelling in his Hyundai i20 car carrying narcotics and illegal weapons.
Acting on the information, the police set up a checkpoint on the Ferozepur-Moga road and intercepted the vehicle.
The police subsequently detained Baldev Singh and conducted a search of the car.
3.35 kg heroin and six pistols recovered
During the search, the police allegedly recovered 3.35 kg of heroin, six pistols, four magazines and 17 live cartridges from the vehicle.
In addition to the narcotics and weapons, the police seized the i20 car and six mobile phones.
The recovery of the heroin and firearms has prompted further investigation into the case.
Case registered under NDPS and Arms Acts
Following the recovery, a case was registered against Baldev Singh under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act.
Possession of prohibited narcotic substances is a punishable offence under the NDPS Act, subject to the applicable legal provisions.
The arrest comes as Punjab continues its campaign against drug trafficking and illegal weapons under the state government's stated zero-tolerance approach.
