A firing incident was reported at the house of a former councillor in the Baltana area of Zirakpur at around 3 am on Wednesday, triggering panic in the locality. According to preliminary police information, approximately 7–8 rounds were fired at the residence. The exact number of rounds will be confirmed after the forensic report.

Police officials who reached the spot told the media that they received information about the incident through the emergency helpline 112. Upon reaching the residence, they found bullet shells lying outside the house. Preliminary observations indicated that the bullets had been fired at the walls of the building.

Senior police officers also reached the scene to assess the situation and oversee the investigation. A forensic team was called to collect evidence from the spot. An FIR was registered at the site, while police initiated efforts to identify the suspects and establish the circumstances surrounding the firing.

CCTV footage being examined

Police are investigating the incident and will examine CCTV footage from cameras installed in and around the area to identify the alleged attackers and trace their movements before and after the firing.

Officials said the estimated number of rounds fired is based on preliminary information, and the exact count will be established after the forensic examination of the recovered evidence.

Previous threat under investigation

According to preliminary reports, the former councillor’s family had allegedly received a threat from the Tony Bal gang around a year ago, following which a police case was registered. Investigators are examining whether the previous threat has any connection with the latest firing incident.

The motive behind the firing and the identity of the suspects remain unconfirmed. Police said the investigation is ongoing, with CCTV footage, forensic evidence and the earlier threat being examined as part of the probe.
