Former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Jalandhar North halka in-charge Dinesh Dhall joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday, days after being removed from his party post.
Dhall was inducted into the BJP in the presence of Punjab BJP chief Kewal Dhillon.
Along with Dhall, more than a dozen of his supporters also joined the BJP and those joining included his cousin and Municipal Corporation councillor Amit Dhall.
Dhall was removed as AAP’s Jalandhar North halka in-charge on July 29.
The party subsequently handed over the responsibility to Jalandhar Mayor Vaneet Dhir. Dhall and members of his team were reportedly unhappy with the decision.
After his removal, Dhall continued to highlight development works carried out in the constituency during his nearly four-and-a-half-year association with the AAP.
Dhall had contested the Jalandhar North Assembly seat on an AAP ticket in the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections but was unsuccessful and before joining the AAP, he was associated with the Congress.
His political career began with his election as a Municipal Corporation councillor, he later contested the Jalandhar North Assembly seat as a Congress dissident in the 2012 elections.
His latest move to the BJP comes ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, with political activity and party switching increasing in the state and with Dhall’s entry, the BJP has gained a former AAP constituency-level leader along with a group of his supporters in Jalandhar North.
