The Punjabi singer is getting slammed by not only social media users but also many influencers have joined the chorus to criticize him. In the music video for Azul, Guru Randhawa plays a photographer who visits an all-girls school for their class photo and then allegedly sexualizes the young girls.
Although Randhawa has used adult actors in his song, but them wearing school uniforms and glamourizing teacher-student interactions have not gone down well to a certain section of people.
Influencer Shirish Gupta released a video in which he introduced himself as a career coach raised question on Guru Randhawa's song Azul.
He posted a video with a caption that reads, "Guru Randhawa's new song Azul is problematic!
As a parent and a career coach, I can’t ignore how such music videos normalize problematic visuals.
A grown man in a school setup, posing with girls in uniform, may look “entertaining” to some, but it silently shapes how young boys view girls.
When we accept this as normal, more such content gets produced. Music can inspire without compromising values. We owe our children better. Guru Randhawa’s talent deserves stronger concepts, not shortcuts like this."
Notably, plethora of social media users are not happy with Guru Randhawa's songs. Many are also expressing it on X (formerly Twitter). Below are some reactions
Amid the social media bashing, Guru shared a cryptic note on his Instagram story. He wrote in Punjabi, "When I tried making everyone happy, I was sad. Today, when I am happy, everyone else is sad. God (heart emoji)."
Guru dropped this note in the wee hours of Saturday. Before this, he shared another note celebrating his song: “Azul is Azuling (wine glass emojis). When God is with you, you only move forward (red heart emoji)."
