The case of MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra is turning out to be more and more complicated. Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra who has not been arrested yet is facing major allegations. A Patiala court has ordered Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, accused in a rape case, to appear before it. The court has given him time until November 12th.
If Pathanmajra fails to appear in court by the stipulated time, it is likely that Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra will be declare a fugitive. The MLA has been absconding for the past multiple months.
An FIR was filed against Pathanmajra for rape two months ago at the Civil Lines police station in Patiala. When the police went to arrest him, he reportedly fled to Dabri village in Karnal, Haryana.
An FIR was also filed in Karnal in this regard. Pathanmajra filed a bail application in the Patiala court, but on October 9th, the court rejected his plea.
According to the FIR, the MLA is accused of deceiving a woman by claiming he was divorced and seeking a marriage. The relationship, which began with an acquaintance on social media, gradually escalated into marriage and then physical abuse.
The complainant stated that she met Pathanmajra through Facebook in 2013-14. At that time, the MLA, claiming to be a divorcee, proposed marriage, and the relationship continued for a long time.
On August 14, 2021, the couple reportedly had an Anand Karaj (wedding ceremony) at Gurudwara Patti Multani in Jagraon, Ludhiana. During this ceremony, Pathanmajra also identified himself as a divorcee in front of the Gurdwara's Granthi.
The woman says that after the marriage, she was kept in a house in Majithia Enclave, Ludhiana, where she continued to live with him, believing herself to be his legal wife.
When Pathanmajra contested the election on an AAP ticket in March 2022, he mentioned his first wife's name in the affidavit and declared himself married. This revealed to the woman that they had never actually been divorced.
The FIR also states that the MLA not only lied and deceived her, but also repeatedly physically abused and raped her.
