Punjab winter is famous or infamous for making its people shiver down the core during the winter season. Punjab Winter 2025 is here and the night-time temperature has started to be recorded in single digits. However, the afternoon temperature is remaining the mid 20 degree Celsius.
Notably, IMD before the start of the winters had warned Punjab is likely to witness harsh winters in 2025. In fact, it had predicted that Punjab will witness December-like winters in November 2025. However, it later withdrew its prediction stated that winters in Punjab and other nearby states will be normal or like every other year.
Now it is November 17 and Punjab has witnessed chilling nights. Now, the question arises has Punjab ever seen a snowfall in winters? Continue reading below to know the answer-
The answer is yes. At least two districts of Punjab have witnessed snowfall in the past. As per Indian Express report, Pathankot and Hoshiarpur witnessed rare snowfall in 2012.
It was reported probably for the first time in the recorded history of Punjab, several villages of Pathankot and Hoshiarpur districts experienced snowfall. Snowfall in those Punjab was seen as rare as those two districts generally experience maximum temperature of up to 40s in summer.
List of areas that witnessed rainfall in these two districts of Punjab were Badani,Dunera,Dharkalan,Bhundal villages,that are located five to seven kilomenters from Pathankot city.
Villages including Alera,Chareha,Slagru,Kartoli,Bhavnaur,Darapur,Bholl Badmania,Sukhchianpur,Birring,Kumahi Devi in Talwara block of Mukerian Subdivision of Hoshiarpur district also witnessed snow fall for nearly 90 minutes.
Thereafter in 2019, Bollywood's megastar Amitabh Bachchan shared a series of photos of snowfall in Punjab.
