
Today morning, at around 7:30 am, a fire broke out in an AC coach of the Amritsar-Saharsa Garib Rath Express at Sirhind railway station. In a latest development it is being reported that there were no casulities, however a lady reported of minor injuries.
What really happened to the train?
As per the information from l a Government Railway Police (GRP) official, fire smoke was noticed in coach G-19. A passenger pulled the emergency chain to stop the train. Following the stop, passengers were safely evacuated from the affected coach and shifted to other coaches to ensure their safety.
However, the initial fire engulfed the coach G-19 and thereby it also affected two nearby coaches to a minor extent. Due to this, the three coaches were decoupled from the rest of the train, and team for evacuation were called immediately to control the fire. A passenger traveling in coach 18, said that people stuck in coach 19 ran towards coach 18 as smoke filled the compartment. A passenger pulled the chain, stopping the train in time, allowing passengers to move safely to nearby coaches. Several people reported that they had to leave their belongings in train in order to save themselves.
A 32-year old suffered minor injury
A 32-year-old woman whose name has not been identified suffered minor burn injuries and was admitted to the Civil Hospital in Fatehgarh Sahib for treatment. Additionally, Officials assured that after the fire was extinguished and safety checks were completed, the train would resume its journey to its destination.
