As part of the innovative ‘Punjab Road Cleanliness Mission’ launched in the district, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Agarwal inspected the adopted stretch of the Jalandhar-Phagwara Road (within Jalandhar limits) along with officials from the National Highway Authority.

He instructed the officials to address shortcomings at the earliest. Emphasizing the importance of proper sanitation, he directed that waterlogging during the monsoon season must be prevented, as stagnant water not only damages the roads but also causes inconvenience to commuters.

Reiterating Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s commitment to making Punjab one of the cleanest states in the country, Dr. Agarwal said the mission was initiated to maintain the appearance and cleanliness of roads in the district.

As part of the mission, 51 roads spanning 10 kilometers each have been adopted by various senior officials. He mentioned that he has personally adopted the Jalandhar-Phagwara Road (within Jalandhar limits) and will continue to monitor it regularly.

Dr. Agarwal added that under the mission, daily inspections will ensure removal of black spots, rectification of engineering flaws, timely repair of potholes, clear road markings, maintenance of footpaths, functional streetlights, and regular garbage removal for comprehensive sanitation.

Issuing further directions, Dr. Agarwal emphasized that any shortcomings observed during inspections must be immediately reported to the relevant departments, whether it be the Local Government Department, Public Works Department, National Highway Authority, or others.

He added that repeated issues should be analyzed for root causes so that permanent solutions can be implemented.

He concluded by stating that officials who have adopted specific roads have already begun monitoring their respective stretches.
