

An encounter took place between the police and a criminal in Jalandhar on Tuesday, during which a shooter associated with the Kaushal Chaudhary gang was arrested after being injured in retaliatory firing.
According to police sources, the incident occurred in the Pholriwal area when a Crime Branch team, acting on specific intelligence, attempted to apprehend the accused, who was hiding in the locality. The accused, identified as Akash, is allegedly involved in multiple criminal cases.
Police said that when the team tried to surround and arrest him, the accused refused to surrender and opened fire on the police party. The police retaliated in self-defense, during which the accused sustained a bullet injury to his leg.
During the operation, the accused reportedly slipped from his motorcycle, fell onto the road, and was injured. He was immediately taken to the Civil Hospital, Jalandhar, where he is currently undergoing treatment under police custody.
The Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar Dhanpreet Kaur stated that the accused has been declared a proclaimed offender in two cases. Two FIRs had earlier been registered against him in Goraya, and he had been absconding while evading arrest.
Police officials confirmed that further investigation is underway to ascertain the accused’s involvement in other criminal activities and to identify his associates. Security has been tightened in the area following the encounter, and legal proceedings are being carried out as per law.
