The Sher-e-Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab T20 League is being introduced as a franchise-based T20 competition by the Punjab Cricket Association, designed to give players from the state a dedicated platform to compete, perform and push towards bigger opportunities. The new format is being built on the lines of the IPL, with city-based franchises, player auctions and team identities.
Teams in the league
Among the teams are the Amritsar Soormas, Fazilka Falcons and Jalandhar Warriors, Mohali Kings, Ludhiana Lions and Bhatinda Royals with some of Punjab's biggest contemporary cricket names attached to the franchises. Shubman Gill is associated with Fazilka, while Abhishek Sharma is set to represent Amritsar. Prabhsimran Singh is set to lead Jalandhar Warriors and Ludhiana lions to compete under the leadership of Arshdeep Singh.
Mohali Kings and Bhatinda Royals will perform under Ramandeep Singh and Gurnoor bBrar respectively
Jalandhar Warriors: A team with a city behind it
The Jalandhar Warriors are not entering Sher-e-Punjab as just another franchise. They are carrying the name of one of Punjab's major sporting cities — and they will be led by Prabhsimran Singh.
For a city that has always had a strong sporting culture, having a dedicated T20 franchise creates a completely different kind of connection.
Who are the Warriors betting on?
The franchise has already completed its auction business, putting together a squad that combines promising young names with players looking to establish themselves on a bigger stage.
Anmol Malhotra emerged as the Warriors’ biggest auction buy at ₹6.2 lakh. He was closely followed by Sukhdeep Bajwa, who was picked for ₹6 lakh. The franchise also invested ₹4.2 lakh in Harjas Singh Tondon, making him another significant addition to the squad.
Randeep Singh was picked for ₹3.2 lakh, while Aryan Yadav joined the Warriors for ₹2.5 lakh.
The Warriors further strengthened their squad with Abhinav Sharma, picked for ₹2 lakh. Umesh Gill was brought in for ₹1.5 lakh. Vishwa Pratap Singh also joined the side for ₹1.5 lakh. Emanjot Singh Chahal completed the trio of ₹1.5-lakh picks.
For Jalandhar, the Warriors are more than a new franchise on a T20 fixture. They are a chance for the city to put its own cricketing identity on the map. With Prabhsimran Singh leading the side and a squad built through a mix of major and emerging auction picks, the stage is now set. The numbers, names and auction bids have done their part — now the Warriors have to turn that investment into performances, and give Jalandhar a team worth roaring for.
