The traders alleged that the department’s actions were abrupt and unfair. They expressed deep resentment, stating that the constant pressure from the authorities is pushing them to the edge.

"Our patience has run out," said one of the protesting traders, adding that they would consult with their association and consider a collective response. They warned that if no understanding is reached with the administration, they would resort to a complete market shutdown.

Shopkeepers further alleged that despite previous assurances from officials that such raids would not be conducted without prior notice, the department suddenly entered shops and began inspections.

"If there is any information against a shopkeeper, summon them directly, but storming into shops and conducting raids is unacceptable," said another shop owner.

Shopkeepers also warned, "if surprise raids continue, traders would hand over their shop keys to the administration and shut down their businesses indefinitely."

Not the first GST raid in Jalandhar Market

Notably, on July 4, shopkeepers of Sehdev Market shut down their shops after a sudden GST raid. Speaking to the media, the owner of Khalsa Sales Agency said, “The GST officials came without any warning and began checking our stock. Now our goods are seized, and we are being stopped from doing business. If we can’t run our shops, how are we expected to pay taxes?”
