The counting of votes for the much-awaited Jullundur Gymkhana Club elections is underway, with the Achievers Group continuing to maintain its lead across all three key contested posts after four rounds of counting.
More than 2,000 members have cast their votes, taking the overall turnout beyond the 50% mark and reflecting the strong interest among Gymkhana members in this year’s election.
After four rounds, the latest vote tally is:
Junior Vice President: Dheeraj Seth — 725 votes vs Advocate Daljit Singh Chhabra — 562 votes. Dheeraj Seth is leading by 163 votes.
Secretary: Amit Kukreja — 1,015 votes, Vijay Sahdev — 169 votes, and Dr. Michael Ohri — 102 votes. Amit Kukreja is leading by 846 votes over the second-placed candidate.
Treasurer: Saurabh Khullar — 722 votes vs Gurdarshan Singh Kochhar — 567 votes. Saurabh Khullar is leading by 155 votes.
The Joint Secretary position had already been secured by the Achievers Group, with Harpreet Singh “Goldy” becoming Joint Secretary after Progressive Group candidate Anu Matta withdrew her candidature, citing health concerns.
The election is being contested primarily between the Achievers Group and Progressive Group, with an independent candidate also in the race for Secretary.
The Progressive Group fielded Vijay Sahdev for Secretary, Advocate Daljit Singh Chhabra for Junior Vice President, Anu Matta for Joint Secretary and Gurdarshan Singh Kochhar for Treasurer.
Its Executive Member candidates included Prof. Vipan Jhanji, Shaleen Joshi, Gagan Uppal, Advocate Tarnjot Singh Sidana, Captain Raman Singh, Jasmeet Singh Chhabra and Maninder Singh Bedi.
The Achievers Group fielded Amit Kukreja for Secretary, Dheeraj Seth for Junior Vice President, Harpreet Singh “Goldy” for Joint Secretary and Saurabh Khullar for Treasurer.
Its Executive Member candidates included Nitin Behl, Atul Talwar, Shalini Kalra, Vinnie Dhawan, Jubin Shangari, Mohinder Singh, Rajiv Bansal, M.B. Bali and Rishu Jhanji.
Dr. Michael Ohri contested independently for the post of Secretary.
The latest counting figures show a clear lead for the Achievers Group in all three key contested posts. Amit Kukreja currently has the widest margin with 846 votes, followed by Dheeraj Seth with a 163-vote lead and Saurabh Khullar with a 155-vote lead.
With four rounds of counting completed, the Achievers Group remains ahead across all three key posts. However, the final result is still awaited as counting continues.
