Sarabjit Kaur, an Indian Sikh woman, who went to Pakistan via Wagah border on November 4, 2025 along with other Sikh pilgrims for Guru Nanak Dev’s 556th birth anniversary is once again in the headlines. Now, Sarabjit’s first husband, Kernal Singh has approached the Lahore Court requesting deportation of his wife, who travelled to Pakistan on a religious pilgrimage visa and later married Nasir Hussain after allegedly converting to Islam.
Kernal Singh has filed a petition in the Lahore High Court through Advocate Ali Changezi Sandhu seeking to declare Sarabjit Kaur’s marriage to Nasir Hussain, a Pakistani citizen, void as she did that without divorcing her Indian husband and to recognize the first marriage as valid. The petition mentions that Sarabjit Kaur did not follow the legal process of the Federal Shariat Court (FSC) and constitutional courts. It also mentions that that cohabitation or physical relations outside a marriage while the first marriage is valid constitutes ‘zina’ under Islamic law and requests to initiate a proceeding against Nasir Hussain on ‘zina’ charges.
The petition also mentions that Sarabjit is a victim of blackmail and extortion. As per the reports it is being alleged that Nasir possess some explicit pictures of her and has been intimidating her by threatening to leak those pictures.
Kernal Singh also demands that Sarabjit Kaur be kept in a women's shelter until the case is resolved, and that her sons be allowed to speak with her from time to time. He claims that the marriage between him and Sarabjit Kaur is still legally valid and calls for her deportation citing violations of Foreigners Act, 1946 and the conditions of her pilgrimage visa. The lawyer states that all the evidence required to support their claims has been attached along with the petition.
