A fresh development has emerged in the case of international bodybuilder Varinder Ghuman, who tragically died during surgery at Fortis Escort Hospital in Amritsar on October 9, 2025. Following the incident, Ghuman’s family had accused the hospital management of gross negligence, prompting the Amritsar administration to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising medical specialists.
Last month, the SIT submitted its report, which reportedly concluded that Ghuman’s death occurred due to negligence by the hospital doctors during the operation. Based on this report, Amritsar police have now registered a case under Section 106(1) of the BNS against four senior doctors of Fortis Escort Hospital.
The FIR names the following doctors: Dr. Tapish Shukla, Orthopedic Surgeon; Dr. Alka Tiwari, Consultant Anesthetist; Dr. Rajinder Kaur, Head of the Anesthesia Department; and Dr. Arun Kumar Chopra, Consultant Cardiologist. The case has been filed for alleged professional negligence leading to the death of Ghuman, and further investigation is underway.
Authorities have stated that the probe will be conducted thoroughly to determine accountability and ensure justice for the deceased athlete’s family.
