The Punjab government has announced a key administrative transfer effective April 6, 2026, appointing Varjeet Walia, a 2018-batch IAS officer and former Deputy Commissioner of Patiala, as the new Deputy Commissioner of Jalandhar. He replaces Himanshu Aggarwal (2014 batch), who has been transferred from Jalandhar to Patiala.

Issued by Chief Secretary KAP Sinha through the Department of Personnel’s IAS Branch, this reshuffle is part of broader administrative adjustments across the state. Varjeet Walia will now oversee critical district functions in Jalandhar, including law and order, revenue administration, development projects, public health, and coordination of state policies in agriculture, industry, and urban development. His experience in Patiala equips him to manage Jalandhar’s urban growth, industrial hubs, and surrounding rural areas effectively. Reportedly Varjeet Walia's father is known editor of a popular Punjabi newspaper.

Residents, businesses, and stakeholders in Jalandhar can expect official announcements on Walia’s priorities and initiatives shortly, as the district prepares for continued administrative efficiency and development projects.
