Diwali 2025 Date Update

The Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Katra, has officially announced the important dates associated with the Diwali festival for the year 2025. According to the decision taken by the Darbar, this year the main festival of Diwali will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.

The Shrine Board has released the complete schedule of festivals, which is as follows:

  • October 19, Sunday - The festivals will begin with Dhanteras. Worshiping Lord Dhanvantari and shopping on this day hold special significance.

  • October 20, Monday - Naraka Chaturdashi and Hanuman Jayanti will be celebrated on this day. This day is also known as Chhoti Diwali.

  • October 21, Tuesday - This is the main festival of Diwali, when special prayers will be offered to Mahalakshmi.

  • October 22, Wednesday – The next day, Govardhan Puja, Annakoot, and Vishwakarma Day will be celebrated.

  • October 23, Thursday – The festivals will conclude with Bhai Dooj (Yama Dwitiya), which symbolizes the unbreakable love between a brother and a sister.

Diwali celebrations in Jalandhar and Ludhiana on October 21

Rajesh Vij, General Secretary of the Devi Talab Mandir while talking to True Scoop said, "Diwali will be celebrated on October 21st. Mata Vaishno Devi board has also issued an announcement that Diwali will be celebrated on October 21st."

For the unversed, Devi Talab Mandir of Jalandhar is regarded as one of the 51 Shakti Pithas in India. Hence, it holds a special significance.

Pandit Bume Baba Ji of Shri Kali Mata Temple of Devi Talab Jalandhar informed True Scoop-

"We will be celebrating Diwali on October 21 at Devi Talab Mandir. It's up to people when they want to celebrate Diwali, but the main Diwali is on October 21, i.e., Tuesday. The subhmuhurat of Lakshmi Puja is after 5:30 pm. You can perform the puja all night after 5:30 pm. The night of Maha Lakshmi is the whole night."

Pandit Vijay Sharma who was one of the priests who attended Punjab Brahmin Welfare Board's meeting in Ludhiana informed True Scoop-

"Yesterday, a meeting took place in a government office near the Ludhiana DC office. Brahmins and Mahatmas came there to discuss the Diwali dates and the confusion surrounding October 21 and 22. In fact, our Pandit Devi Dayal Jalandharwale, who has always written the Patri, decided on October 21st is the day of Diwali.

Consequently, all Brahmins agree that Diwali should be celebrated on October 21st. If someone wants to celebrate Diwali on the 20th, that's their choice."

On reports of Diwali on October 20, Pandit Sharma said, "We too have read that Diwali is on October 20th, but we follow our Panchang, and Pandit Devi Dayal Ji Jalandharwale."
