Fresh allegations have emerged over the violence and vandalism that took place at Lovely Professional University (LPU), with a student questioning what happened inside the Dean of Student Welfare (DSW) office during the unrest.
LPU student Ramya Mishra released a video on Instagram in which she levelled allegations against student and social media influencer Farhat Dev. Mishra alleged that Farhat was among the first people to enter the DSW office on the night the unrest began. She further claimed that another person was called inside, after which a camera was smashed and vandalism followed.
These allegations have not been independently verified.
In her video, Mishra questioned Farhat’s role while referring to CCTV footage from the DSW office. She alleged that there was a difference between his public position during the protest and what allegedly happened inside the office.
Farhat Dev has denied involvement in the vandalism. Responding to the allegations, he said he had entered the DSW office but stepped back out after being called by another person. He maintained that he had tried to prevent people from damaging property.
Farhat said he was willing to take responsibility for mistakes he had actually made, but maintained that he was not involved in the incident inside the DSW office. He also claimed that videos from the scene could show who was present and involved.
Another video of Farhat addressing students during the protest has also surfaced. In the video, he speaks about the allegations of sexual harassment at the university and says students were protesting to make their concerns heard. He also acknowledges that some actions during the protest were wrong. At one point, he shows a bandaged hand and claims that glass had pierced it.
The developments come as the university continues its disciplinary investigation into the campus violence. The allegations specifically concerning Farhat’s role in the DSW office vandalism remain unverified.
