A fresh controversy has erupted in Punjab after a man made a reel washing his face and gargling in the sacred Golden Temple's Sarovar. The video of the man has come under SGPC scrutiny for his act of gargling and spitting in the sacred Sarovar.
In the viral reel, the man can be seen sitting at the edge of the Sarovar with his feet in the water. He gargles three times and once spits the water back into the Sarovar. After gargling, he gestures towards the Golden Temple with his fingers.
Reacting to the media, Kulwant Singh Mann, Chief Secretary of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), addressed the media and condemned the act. Kulwant Singh Mann also noted that the man may have been unaware of Sikh Maryada, as he appears to belong to a different community in the video.
He added that if the video is confirmed authentic, further inquiry would determine why sevadars were not present to prevent the incident.
The SGPC had previously imposed restrictions on filming reels within the Golden Temple premises to protect religious sentiments. Sevadars are assigned specifically to ensure that no objectionable content is recorded or shared from the holy site.
