
At least 7 districts of Punjab are devastated by floods. A team of Punjab Police, NDRF and even the Indian Armed Forces have the ground zero to rescue people from flood affected areas.
The reason behind Punjab Flood is said to incessant rainfall in hilly States- Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. Now, weather department, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that North Western states of India will continue receive rainfall even in the month of September 2025.
Jammu & Kashmir (Union Territory), Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana comes under Northwest states.
As per a Hindustan Times Report, North West India has witnessed 23% excess rain in the monsoon that began June 1. The month of September will continue to witness rainfall as well, especially in these regions.

There is likely to be above-normal rainfall over several parts of north, west and central India till September 4. India Meteorological Department’s extended range forecast (ERF) suggests that wet conditions are likely to continue till September 18.
It is pertinent to mention here that on July 31, IMD had predicted that that above normal rainfall in excess of 106% of the long period average is likely over the country during the second half of the southwest monsoon season (August and September).
At the time, IMD officials said rainfall in August would be normal, and September, above normal.
Notably, IMD's prediction of more rainfall is concerning as Punjab and many other states are already batting floods.
