A car caught intense fire on the Jalandhar-Pathankot bypass road. The car was a new Swift Dezire that turned into ashes in a few minutes. According to the information, the Kapurthala based (PB09U7045) car was travelling near Jalandhar-Pathankot bypass multiplex on Thursday, 18 June when the car caught fire on the flyover. In the blink of an eye the car formed a ball of fire and the couple inside travelling to the Sacred Heart hospital for visiting a closed one got out of the car saving their lives. As per the information, while the car was normally moving it suddenly started smoking up when the couple decided to come out. The fire it caught was so intense that no part of interior of the car was saved. The steering wheel, seats and the glass of the window as well shattered into pieces.

The commuters and the fire brigade arrived on time to help the couple. Some helped by controlling the fire with water while others took the help of fire extinguishers. Nothing was of use because the fire kept rising and did not come in control. Later after putting so much effort, the fire department was called to take the matter in their hands. After receiving the information, the fire department came on time and with a lot of effort got control on the fire. But this was very late till then the car was already into ashes and nothing could be recovered.

After the incident, the couple went into a great shock and was rushed to a nearby hospital. The doctors declared them fit and well. When the police was informed about the incident, police division number 8 head Meva Singh arrived at the location In no time. The officials started their investigation. In the initial investigation they found out that the reason for the fire was Short Circuit.

The locals questioned the authorities of their management and how a bigger accident could have taken place because of the ill management. They stated that there are no street lights on the bypass that makes the flyover pitch black with 0 visibility. Moreover no reflectors or barricades were placed near the burnt car which could lead to the collision of other cars as well.
