A heartbreaking incident in Garh Padhana village of Nawanshahr, Punjab, has left the community in mourning after the death toll in the case involving three close friends rose to two.
After 13-year-old Paramjit Singh Khalsa died shortly after the incident, 21-year-old Dilpreet Singh also succumbed during treatment. The third friend, Maninder Singh, remains under medical care and is reportedly showing signs of improvement.
Three Close Friends, One Tragic Incident
According to preliminary information, the three friends were extremely close and spent much of their time together. The incident reportedly took place a few days ago, when all three allegedly consumed a poisonous substance under circumstances that are now being investigated by the police.
Initial reports suggest that Dilpreet Singh had been playing online games and had reportedly lost a significant amount of money. He was said to be under considerable mental stress, with the possibility that fear of family pressure may have contributed to the incident.
However, the exact circumstances and motive have not yet been established, and authorities are investigating all aspects of the case.
Paramjit’s Funeral Leaves Village Heartbroken
Paramjit Singh Khalsa's death had already sent shockwaves through the village. Following his post-mortem, his body was brought back to his native village, where family members, relatives and residents gathered for his final farewell.
The atmosphere was deeply emotional as villagers paid their last respects to the 13-year-old. A large number of Nihang Sikhs also attended the final prayers and cremation, bidding farewell to the young Khalsa with tearful eyes.
Second Death Deepens the Grief
The death of Dilpreet Singh during treatment has now deepened the grief surrounding the incident. What began as a medical emergency involving three friends has turned into a devastating loss for two families, while another family continues to hope for Maninder Singh's recovery.
Online Gaming and Youth Mental Health Under Spotlight
The incident has also raised renewed concerns over the impact of online gaming, financial losses and psychological pressure on young people.
At the same time, experts and authorities often stress the importance of young people being able to seek help when facing financial, emotional or family-related pressure rather than dealing with it alone.
Police are continuing their investigation and are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the circumstances that may have led to the three friends becoming critically ill.
For a village now mourning two young lives, the incident has become a painful reminder of the need for greater awareness around online gaming, financial stress and mental wellbeing among young people.
