Acting on the directions of Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has commenced a dedicated drainage cleaning drive along the Jalandhar-Phagwara Highway, up to the city’s boundary.

The initiative is part of the ongoing Punjab Road Cleanliness Mission, aimed at maintaining road infrastructure and ensuring public convenience.

The Deputy Commissioner has personally adopted this road segment and is regularly monitoring its upkeep to enhance its condition and appearance. During a recent surprise inspection, Dr. Aggarwal highlighted key concerns, including severely clogged drainage lines that cause waterlogging, especially during the rainy season.

Acting promptly, he directed NHAI officials to address these issues on priority.

In response, NHAI has begun removing weed growth and clearing blocked drains to restore proper rainwater disposal systems. The effort marks a significant step toward preventing water accumulation and improving road safety and hygiene.

Reiterating Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s vision of making Punjab one of the cleanest states in the country, Dr. Aggarwal emphasized the administration’s commitment to the mission.

Notably, as part of this initiative, senior district officials have adopted 51 road stretches—each up to 10 kilometers—for close monitoring and maintenance.

The Deputy Commissioner has urged all officials to actively report and address issues concerning their assigned roads, ensuring swift action by the concerned departments.
