On the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Jalandhar Central witnessed a historic moment when over 5000 women tied Rakhi to Aam Aadmi Party's Jalandhar Central Halka Incharge Nitin Kohli.
The grand celebrations, held at Geeta Mandir in Adarsh Nagar and Dhillon Palace (Ramamandi), went beyond a traditional festival. Amid chants of “Behena di Aan, Kohli di Shaan”, the event became a powerful display of Nitin Kohli’s unwavering commitment towards women’s respect, safety, and empowerment.
From early morning, both venues were brimming with excitement. This was more than just an occasion to tie Rakhi , it was a massive show of trust in their leader and brother. Every Rakhi tied on Kohli’s wrist symbolised not just a thread, but a seal of promise for their protection and dignity.
In return, Kohli assured every sister that safeguarding their pride and honour would remain his top priority.
Expressing heartfelt emotions, Kohli said, "This thread of Rakhi is not just a tradition, it is your unshakable trust in me and a reminder of my responsibility. Today, in front of over 5,000 sisters, I pledge that as your brother, I will always stand by you in every situation."
He emphasised that this initiative was above politics and a true reflection of the Punjab government’s women empowerment policy, reaffirming his dedication to giving the highest respect to women.
Kohli made it clear that this was not just a one-day bond but a lifelong relationship. "Whenever any of my sisters needs help, your brother will be the first to stand by you," he declared.
The event broke religious and social barriers, redefining the sacred brother-sister relationship, and will be remembered in Jalandhar’s history as a message of respect and safety.
This Raksha Bandhan became not just a festival but a day of commitment to building a safe and respectful society under Nitin Kohli’s leadership. The event’s success was made possible by the support of Aam Aadmi Party councillors, block presidents, vice-presidents, members, and other workers.
