On the auspicious occasion of India’s 79th Independence Day, Punjab witnessed a renewed wave of patriotism and unity. AAP’s Jalandhar Central constituency in-charge Nitin Kohli extended heartfelt greetings to the people of Punjab and the nation, paying tribute to the sacrifices of freedom fighters and the visionary leaders who laid the foundation of modern India.
Kohli also lauded Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann for his pro-people policies and AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal for his vision of a corruption-free and development-driven India.
He said that under their leadership, Punjab is not only celebrating freedom but also progressing towards a brighter future.
Highlighting his commitment since taking charge, Kohli said his aim is to go beyond speeches—meeting people, listening to their concerns, and addressing them on the spot. He recalled resolving several long-pending issues, including the foundation laying of a Sports Hub at Burlton Park by CM Mann and Kejriwal, which will later host international hockey tournaments.
With a mission to promote fitness and an active lifestyle across all age groups, Kohli launched the ‘Fit Central Project’ in Jalandhar. This ambitious plan includes developing modern sports grounds in all 23 wards of the constituency — equipped with floodlights, turf walking tracks, and facilities for badminton, football, volleyball, and cricket.
In a remarkable display of public affection and trust, over 5,000 sisters tied Rakhi to Nitin Kohli during grand celebrations at Geeta Mandir (Adarsh Nagar) and Dhillon Palace (Rama Mandi). Amid chants of “Behena di Aan, Kohli di Shaan”, the event became a powerful expression of his unwavering commitment to women’s dignity, safety, and empowerment.
Kohli said that since taking charge of the constituency, he has strived to go beyond speeches by directly engaging with residents and resolving their problems on the spot. He highlighted his role in unblocking long-pending projects, including the foundation of a state-of-the-art Sports Hub at Burlton Park, laid by CM Mann and AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal. Once completed, it will host international hockey tournaments featuring 5–6 countries.
He also mentioned progress in cleanliness drives, sewerage repairs, and civic amenities, with Jalandhar Central receiving ₹10 crore worth of works approved in the recent F&CC meeting. When GST raids left local traders distressed and shutting shops, Kohli immediately convened a meeting between GST officials and traders — resulting in the raids being halted.
Acting on long-standing demands, significant waivers were provided to residents of Suriya Enclave, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Avenue, and Guru Gobind Singh Avenue, reducing enhancement charges and interest rates under various Improvement Trust schemes.
Kohli said dump shifting is in full swing — Plaza Chowk dump has been permanently removed, and work to clear the long-problematic TV Centre dump is underway. Persistent demands for a second entry point at Jalandhar railway station have also been addressed, bringing huge relief to nearby societies.
Kohli highlighted landmark welfare programs — 600 units of free power to every family, Aam Aadmi Clinics offering free quality healthcare, historic reforms in government school education, new employment opportunities for youth, and the soon-to-be-launched ₹10 lakh cashless health insurance scheme (from October), covering all registered hospitals. He also lauded Punjab’s e-property registration system, enabling corruption-free and transparent registry completion within 48 hours.
By amending the Punjab Shops & Commercial Establishments Act, the government has ended the Inspector Raj, a decades-old demand of small traders. Inspections are now limited to once every six months, bringing relief to the business community. Kohli also welcomed the approval for Vande Bharat Express from Amritsar to Katra, expected to boost religious tourism and local trade.
Reaffirming his dedication, Kohli said, “True freedom is when people are empowered at the grassroots. I will continue serving every resident of Jalandhar Central with honesty, transparency, and dedication.”
