Amritpal Singh's father Tarsem Singh has also taken back his words. He said that Paramjit Kaur Khalra was not announced as the party's candidate. He had only described Paramjit Kaur Khalra as the party's first favorite candidate for these by-elections.

For the unversed, Paramjit Kaur is the wife of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra. Jaswant Khalra had raised his voice against the atrocities and human rights violations against Sikhs in Punjab during the 1980s and 1990s. Due to which she is seen as a strong candidate.

During the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Paramjit Kaur Khalra contested from Khadoor Sahib seat. Even after contesting as an independent candidate, she got about 2 lakh 14 thousand votes, and secured third place.
