The Chandigarh Administration has started making preliminary preparations for the likely visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 17. While the visit is yet to receive official confirmation, departments have reportedly been asked to ensure that all necessary arrangements are in place in case the programme is finalised.
According to administrative sources, security agencies and local officials have also begun coordinating, following the standard protocol followed ahead of any VVIP visit
If the visit goes ahead as planned, the Prime Minister is expected to inaugurate several important healthcare and infrastructure projects that are ready for public use.
These include the 300-bed Advanced Eye Centre, the 300-bed Mother and Child Care Block at PGIMER, and the redeveloped Chandigarh Railway Station. Officials say these projects are complete and only await formal inauguration.
The proposed inaugurations are expected to benefit not only the people of Chandigarh but also residents of neighbouring states, including Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.
Thousands of patients from these states visit PGIMER every year for specialised treatment, and the new healthcare facilities are expected to significantly improve patient care and reduce pressure on existing infrastructure. The redeveloped railway station is also expected to enhance passenger convenience and connectivity.
The likely Chandigarh visit comes shortly after Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu indicated that Prime Minister Modi would visit Punjab during July to dedicate several development projects.
Although Bittu confirmed that a visit was expected, he did not reveal any dates or details of the Prime Minister's itinerary.
Despite the ongoing preparations, officials have clarified that the July 17 programme has not yet been officially confirmed.
Neither the Prime Minister's Office nor the Chandigarh Administration has issued a formal notification regarding the visit. Sources say the final approval is still awaited, and the detailed schedule will be announced only after the programme receives official clearance.
Until then, the administration is continuing with advance preparations to ensure everything is ready if the Prime Minister's visit is confirmed.
