

Punjab Police has intensified its investigation into the incident that took place at Majitha police station on Sunday and as part of ongoing probe police have constituted 12 special teams to identify and arrest those allegedly involved in the case.
On Monday police personnel also visited residence of senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia in reagrds to the same incident.
According to police officials a large number of people gathered outside Majitha police station on Sunday where police claimed that more than 50 to 60 individuals were present at the spot and officials said the gathering turned into an unlawful assembly and the situation outside the police station became tense.
During a press briefing police alleged that around 11:30 am members of crowd overpowered police personnel and forcibly entered police station and officials also mention that the entry into police station was part of a pre planned attempt to secure the release of Jobanpreet Singh who was in formal police custody at the time.
Police further alleged that members of crowd entered different rooms inside police station and searched various areas before reaching the room where Jobanpreet Singh was being questioned and officials claimed that some case files were torn and public property was damaged during the incident.
According to the police version Jobanpreet Singh was forcibly taken out of police custody by members of crowd. And police officials stated that they tried to explain that Jobanpreet Singh had been detained in connection with an FIR and that a formal arrest process had been carried out however officials alleged that a confrontation continued despite these explanations.
Police also claimed that some officers were assaulted during the incident and officials further alleged that an attempt was made to snatch mobile phone of Station House Officer (SHO).
According to police personnel at scene eventually managed to regain control of the situation and brought Jobanpreet Singh back into custody and officials said crowd continued to create a disturbance for some time before situation was brought under control and following the incident police administration launched an investigation and registered an FIR. Officials said that raids are being conducted at multiple locations to identify and arrest those allegedly involved adn police stated that 5 to 7 individuals have been identified so far while efforts are continuing to identify others who were present during the incident.
To speed up the investigation Punjab Police has formed 12 special teams and assigned them specific responsibilities and these teams are conducting coordinated operations in different areas linked to the case and police officials have maintained that strict action will be taken against anyone found involved in the incident and along with this they have stated that no person responsible for violating law will be spared and that arrests will be made based on evidence collected during investigation.
