The mother of 13-year-old girl, who was sexually assaulted and murdered in Jalandhar’s Paras Estate, has written a searing letter to the Punjab Governor, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, DGP Gaurav Yadav and Jalandhar Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur, alleging that the very officers responsible for protecting citizens have instead threatened her family, shielded their colleagues and tried to silence her fight for justice.

As per the victim's mother's letter, which is in possession of True Scoop, she and her family has been living in fear ever since the crime was reported. In her letter, she claims that instead of taking responsibility for lapses in handling the case, police officials have used intimidation to prevent her from demanding action.

According to her, the first lapse occurred the day her daughter went missing and was later found dead. ASI Mangat Ram and the police team that first reached the spot “committed serious negligence in their official duty,” she writes.

Only Mangat Ram was dismissed, she says, while the rest of the police party — present with him during the crucial hours — continues to remain untouched. She questions why no criminal case has been registered against them despite the gravity of their negligence. “It is obvious they are at fault,” her letter says, “yet no action has been taken.”

She alleges that the harassment did not stop at negligence. She claims senior officers — DSP Gagandeep Singh and SHO Manjinder Singh, who introduced himself as the SHO of the Rama Mandi police station — visited her home only to threaten her for pursuing action against the erring officers.

She writes that they mocked her and her daughter, used vulgar language, and warned that if she continued demanding accountability, they would make her life miserable and endanger her family.

“I am still in danger from these police officers,” she states, adding that she has lost hope of getting justice if the same officers accused of harassing her are connected to the investigation into her daughter’s murder.

Her letter raises direct and urgent questions about the functioning of the police system: Why were only partial suspensions made? Why is there no FIR against the officers accused of negligence and intimidation? How can a grieving mother expect justice when the people responsible for investigating the crime are the ones she fears?

She has demanded that ASI Mangat Ram, his entire police party, DSP Gagandeep Singh and SHO Manjinder Singh be dismissed immediately and that a separate criminal case be registered against them. She has also asked for protection for herself and her family, saying that without it, the investigation into her daughter’s murder could be compromised.

Her letter, written in anguish and fear, exposes the deep cracks in policing and accountability in Punjab. Even as the family of a murdered child pleads for justice, the system they turn to appears to be pushing them further into terror instead of offering protection.
