It is recommended to take many seasonal fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants among the citizens to reduce health hazards.
In Punjab, the air quality has turned "Very Poor" due to the fact that festive fireworks of Gurpurab and Dev Diwali crossed the threshold for fireworks and polluted the air to dangerous and unbreathable levels.
On the 5th of November, 2025, after the fireworks, AQI shot up as high as 286 and was recognized to be "very unhealthy". In Jalandhar, the air was so polluted that a measurement of 220 was recorded on the 6th of November. Fireworks and unending stubble burning contributed to the negative particulate matter levels.
There have been reports for many months now of extremely poor air quality in northern and eastern India, with many cities recording air quality index figures above 200, representing extremely dangerous conditions, where recommendations include avoidance of outdoors, masking up, and indoor air purification.
Temp decrease and crop residue burning precedes the Health Department's advisory notice related to air-pollution and crop burning which increases the odds of contracting viral fevers, respiratory problems, and other related illnesses.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Sangeeta Jain, advises to avoid exercises in heavily polluted areas, especially during morning and evening when pollution levels are highest. It adds that the AQI forecasts, published by the Central Pollution Control Board regularly, should be checked. Burning of wastes, crop residues and firecrackers is also advocated against.
The following is recommended to minimize the risk of pulmonary problems:
- Antioxidant-rich seasonal fruits and vegetables.
- Utilize public transport or travel with car windows closed on days that are highly polluted.
Incense sticks and smoking coils also add to the interior pollution of the house.
Avoid crowded streets and zones of high traffic.

Indoor pollution can be minimized by not using incense sticks and mosquito coils.
Avoid busy roads and areas of high traffic. - Promote projects like tree planting, which improve air quality over time.
People with respiratory difficulties, chest pains, and irritated eyes are advised to visit the nearest government health facility.
In this festive season, health-protective measures should be taken by the Punjabis themselves to save their health from deteriorating environmental health conditions and increasing levels of pollution.
