At least 7 districts of Punjab are witnessing floods due to incessant rainfall and rise in water-levels due to over flowing of water from various dams. The dams have been overflowing and have resulted in floods in Punjab due to incessant rainfall in the hilly regions of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.
While Punjab Police, NDRF and Indian Army teams have joined hands to rescue people from flood hit areas, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday visited Gurdaspur to see the situation and communicate directly with the people so that he can listen to their grievances.
What impressed the people present there that CM Mann visited Gurdaspur via Road and not from chopper. It has often been witnessed political leaders specially CMs and PM access the situation from their chopper.
However, CM Mann ditched the traditional method to interact with the people on ground.
Meeting the people, CM Mann said, "After speaking with locals, it became clear that many villagers, along with children, are stranded in their homes without ration or other essentials, unable to move due to the floodwaters."
"These are the same people who entrusted me with 92 seats and the helicopter. Today, I am leaving Punjab government’s helicopter here for them,” the CM said, adding that he has instructed the Deputy Commissioner to ensure that all necessary essentials, including food and supplies, are delivered promptly.
CM Mann also took to his X handle and shared a series of photos from his visit. In the caption, CM Mann wrote, " (Translated version) Today I visited ground zero of flood affected areas of Gurdaspur and Pathankot and inspected them. While talking to the local people, I appealed to them to keep up their courage and courage.
Natural disaster is not in anyone's control, but our government will not leave anyone helpless. Every life is precious for us. The helicopter of Punjab government is always available to help the people. As promised, we will definitely compensate for every loss of the people. Soon the situation will become normal."
