Punjab holiday list 2026; Know which months offer longest weekends

The rare long weekends emerge from strategic overlaps between public holidays and regular Saturdays-Sundays, offering much-needed breaks.

The Punjab government has shared its 2026 holiday list, showing June and December will have the most back-to-back time off - four full days great for trips or seeing relatives. 

Such long holiday stretch emerge when public holidays line up with weekend days, giving people more rest without adding extra leave. Throughout the year, people can expect 30 official holidays along with their usual weekends.

In June, the 18th (Thursday) marks Shaheedi Diwas of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji - the Sant Kabir Jayanti the next day, the 19th (Friday). 20th is a third Saturday and 21st is the holiday for Sunday. Offering people a smooth four-day holiday stretch. 

For the December month, things line up again near Christmas Day - the 25th falls on Friday with an attached holiday on 26th that is fourth Saturday - along with Sunday on 27th

In the official notification for 2026 28th December is marked as a holiday as Fatehgarh Sahib holds its Shaheedi Sabha on Monday. These holidays is wrapping the year 2026 with yet another linked set of four days

Some other months have long weekends too - like April’s Good Friday on the 3rd, a Wednesday 

Followed by holiday on Baisakhi & Birth Anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on April 14 (Tueday). 

There are also grouped breaks in March, October, and November tied to celebrations such as Holi, Dussehra, and Diwali. 

The schedule comes from the Department of Personnel through notice 06/01/2025-2PP3/781, shutting government offices on those days while combining national holidays, Sikh observances, along with cultural festivals.
