Punjab rain alert: Know when the next thunderstorm will hit

IMD warns of lightning, strong winds and scattered rain in multiple Punjab districts between June 10 and June 16

Punjab witnessed light rain at isolated places during the last 24 hours and along with this hailstorms, thunderstorms and gusty winds were also reported at some places across state while at the same time heat wave conditions were recorded at isolated locations.

The highest maximum temperature in Punjab was recorded at Bathinda where the mercury reached 46.3 degrees Celsius and the lowest minimum temperature in state was 26 degrees Celsius recorded at Bathinda, Gurdaspur and Ballowal Saunkari.

According to latest weather forecast light to moderate rainfall is likely at isolated places on June 10, 14, 15 and 16 and rainfall activity is expected to increase between June 11 and June 13 when light to moderate rain may occur at a few places across Punjab.

Weather department has said that there will be no major change in maximum temperatures during next 24 hours however temperatures are likely to fall by 4 to 5 degrees Celsius during following four days due to rain and thunderstorm activity. From June 11 onwards thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds and even hail are expected in several districts.

On June 11, thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds of 60 to 70 kmph with gusts reaching up to 80 kmph and hail are likely at isolated places in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Mohali and Patiala and similar strong winds and thunderstorms are also expected in Ferozepur, Moga, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Barnala, Mansa, Sangrur, Tarn Taran, Fazilka, Faridkot and Muktsar.

Light to moderate rainfall is forecast for many areas of state.

On June 12 thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds of up to 80 kmph may continue in several districts including Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Bathinda and Mansa along with many other parts of Punjab.

Light to moderate rainfall is expected at many places.

On June 13 thunderstorms with gusty winds of 40 to 50 kmph are likely at isolated places in Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahar, Rupnagar, Patiala, Mohali, Muktsar, Bathinda and Mansa. Rainfall is also expected in these districts.

On June 14 thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 40 to 50 kmph may affect Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Bathinda and Mansa and along with this light to moderate rainfall is likely at isolated places in these districts.
