Punjab weather is slowly turning cool as October enters its final few weeks. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the mercury in the majority of districts will dip by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in the next few days, announcing the arrival of early winter.
On Oct. 20, Monday, all the key locations in Punjab, including Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Bathinda, and Patiala, reported clear weather with day temperatures of 32-33°C and nighttime temperatures of 20-22°C. This is a steady drop from the first week of October, when day temperatures had touched 35-36°C.
Humidity is moderate at 35–40%, and average wind speed is 10–12 km/h, providing a gentle breeze. It has not rained over the last 24 hours, and dry weather is expected to dominate for the week.
Amritsar & Gurdaspur: day temperatures near 31°C, nights near 19°C, clear sky expected.
Ludhiana & Jalandhar: slightly warmer, with tops at 32–33°C, bottoms near 20°C.
Patiala & Fatehgarh Sahib: Day 33°C, nights 21°C, no precipitation predicted.
Bathinda & Mansa: Warmer plains with maximum temperature of 34°C, night temperature drop to 22°C.
SAS Nagar (Mohali) & Ropar: Pleasant weather with max 31°C and min 19°C, windy evenings.
IMD Chandigarh in its long-range forecast stated that minimum temperatures will continue to be close to or slightly less than normal over Punjab during the next week. The mercury will dip even further towards the weekend as the cooler northwesterly winds start dominating the region.
The Meteorological Department has also forecast that the winter in Punjab is going to be colder than normal this time and there is likely to be early foggy mornings from the first week of November itself.
In all, Punjab is slowly transitioning to cool November mornings and chilly, comfortable nights, a sure indication that the winter is on its way.
