According to the latest IMD Chandigarh update issued on October 7, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph are likely at isolated places in Punjab on October 7 and 8.
For October 9 and 10, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are likely at isolated places.
Rain expected at isolated places till October 13
The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall at isolated places in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh from October 7 to 13. The forecast indicates that the rain is likely to remain isolated rather than widespread across the region.
Punjab under weather warning till October 10
The latest subdivision-wise warning issued by IMD Chandigarh lists thunderstorm, lightning and squall-related warnings for Punjab from October 7 through October 10. No warning has been issued for Punjab from October 11 to 13.
Temperatures remain above normal at several places
IMD's October 7 weather observations show that temperatures were still above normal at several Punjab stations on October 6. Ludhiana recorded a maximum of 34.8°C and minimum of 23.6°C, with the maximum 1.4°C above normal and minimum 4.3°C above normal. Chandigarh recorded a maximum of 34.8°C, 2.2°C above normal, and a minimum of 24.2°C, 3.3°C above normal.
No rainfall recorded at major stations on October 6
The IMD report showed nil rainfall at several major stations, including Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Amritsar and Patiala, for the previous 24-hour observation period. The upcoming forecast, however, indicates the possibility of isolated rain and thunderstorms over the next few days.
