After the murder of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Lucky Oberoi in Model Town area of Jalandhar today, another shocking incident has surfaced from the Urban Estate area. A case of robbery has come to light where as per the reports a couple has been robbed of Rs 19 Lakh by bike-borne thieves outside a bank in Urban Estate, Jalandhar.
This daylight robbery has been reported from the posh locality of Urban Estate Phase 2. As per reports, the robbers snatched a bag containing lakhs of rupees in cash from the couple in a car outside an HDFC Bank branch and fled the scene. Talking about the incident the victim woman shares details about the happening and says, her husband was parking the car when this unfolded. She explains that she was the one holding the bag of cash when two young men riding a motorcycle approached her and pricked her hand with a sharp object. Following this, they snatched the bag full of cash which allegedly contained Rs 19 lakh.
The couple, who owns a jewelry shop, had withdrawn Rs 17 lakh in cash from the bank located at Vijay Nagar Football Chowk and brought another Rs 2 lakh from their home. The couple claims that they were supposed to hand over this money to someone. The victim family has informed the police regarding the incident and SHO Balwinder Singh of Police Station 7 reached the spot and recorded the statements of the victims. As of now CCTV footage from the nearby areas is being examined and the police has assured that the culprits would be apprehended soon.
The Urban Estate robbery incident took place within hours of the murder of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Lucky Oberoi. Today, in the early morning hours the AAP leader was shot dead by two assailants and as per reports the police teams were on high alert after this incident. Both the localities, Model Town and Urban Estate, are in close proximity to each other with just 2-3km of distance between them and a travel time of about 7 minutes only.
This reoccurrence of such serious incidents the area has raised major security concerns in the region and uncovered a laps in the police system.
