
At least 7 districts of Punjab are currently witnessing flood due to incessant rainfall in the state and rise in water-level in dams due to heavy rain in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.
For instance, water is being released continuously due to rising water level of Ranjit Sagar Dam and Bhakra Dam. Due to this, the water level of Ravi, Sutlej and Beas rivers is increasing.

These orders have been issued by Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney. DC Sakshi Sawhney said that there is a possibility of increase in the water level of the Ravi river in the next 12 hours. Due to this, 14 villages of Ajnala area have been put on high alert as a precaution. He said that at present the condition of the Beas river is stable, but it is being constantly monitored.
The district administration has assured that it is keeping round-the-clock vigil in view of the 48-hour weather warning. All teams are actively working to tackle any emergency.

Nawanshahr administration has also announced that both government as well as private schools will remain closed on August 27.
The order has been issued in view of the continuous heavy rainfall in recent days and the India Meteorological Department’s forecast of more heavy rain in the coming days.
