SHO allegedly threatened to frame man in drug case
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested Kot Ise Khan police station Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Sunita Bawa and her gunman, Home Guard jawan Guravtar Singh, for allegedly demanding and accepting a ₹50,000 bribe.
According to Vigilance Bureau officials, the case originated after the Kot Ise Khan police arrested a resident of Khosa Randhir village in a drug-related case. During the investigation, Bawa allegedly threatened to implicate Rajwinder Singh, a resident of Noorpur Hakima village, in a drug trafficking case unless he paid money.
Sources said the SHO had allegedly already received ₹50,000 from Rajwinder and was demanding another ₹50,000. Rajwinder subsequently approached the Vigilance Bureau after refusing to pay the additional amount.
Vigilance team lays trap on Zira Road
Following a preliminary inquiry into the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau constituted a team led by Ferozepur Range Inspector Gagandeep Kaur.
The team laid a trap at around 9 pm on Saturday on Zira Road. According to the bureau, Bawa and Guravtar Singh were caught red-handed while allegedly accepting ₹50,000 from the complainant in the presence of official witnesses.
The Vigilance Bureau said Bawa was already under scrutiny over allegations that bribes were being collected through her gunman.
A case has been registered against the accused under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further investigation is underway.
Officer’s remarks after arrest spark social media buzz
The bribery case gained further attention after a video featuring Inspector Sunita Bawa following her arrest surfaced on social media and went viral.
When reporters questioned her after the arrest, Bawa was seen responding, “All is well, all is well.” When asked about the allegations, she reportedly remarked, “Look, a new jail module has started, let's see what happens.”
Asked how she could remain composed while facing arrest, the officer reportedly replied that one must remain bold and that ups and downs keep happening.
The video has triggered a mixed response on social media, with some users questioning the officer's apparent composure while others using the episode to raise broader questions about alleged corruption within the police system.
The Vigilance Bureau has taken both accused into custody and is conducting further proceedings as part of the investigation.
