According to the information by ACP Kamaljit Singh it was known that a man sustained a bullet injury after unidentified assailants allegedly opened fire on him in the Majitha Road area of Amritsar. The incident took place on June 26, Friday. A case has been registered, and multiple police teams have been formed to arrest the accused, who fled the scene after the incident. In an interaction with the police official, it was reported that police was informed by the hospital at 10:10 in the morning. The victim has been identified as Narinder Singh and the accused is identified as Satnam Singh along with few more people allegedly from Taran Taaran.
Background of the issue
According to Sukhbir Singh, friend of the victim, the dispute originated from an earlier altercation at the Taj Hotel, where he worked. He alleged that tensions had been brewing with another employee associated with a welfare organisation. Sukhbir claimed that the accused was removed from his job a few days ago, after which the hostility between the two sides escalated. Sukhbir also mentioned that the accused thought that he was the reason the accused was removed from the job. Thereafter on June 24, he received phone calls and text messages from the other party. Initially, the conversation suggested that the matter had been resolved amicably. However, later that evening, he was again contacted and asked to meet at around 7 p.m. to discuss the issue further.
Events of the incident
According to Sukhbir, when he reached the designated location along with the victim, four men arrived on two motorcycles. He alleged that the attackers were armed with pistols and opened fire without any warning or conversation. Attempting to save his friend, Narinder got in between and a bullet struck him in the thigh. During the assault, he also sustained injuries to his nose
The victim further alleged that after the firing, the assailants attempted to attack him with a datar (a sharp-edged weapon) and other weapons, indicating an intention to kill him. He claimed the attackers had specifically asked for him before launching the assault and fled immediately after the incident.
