A police encounter took place in Udhanwal village during the investigation into a recent firing incident at the residence of a cloth merchant in Batala. During the exchange of fire, a gangster's aide was injured after being hit in the leg by a police bullet. The accused was later shifted to the Civil Hospital in Batala under tight security for medical treatment. According to police officials, unidentified assailants had opened fire a few days ago targeting the house of a cloth merchant in Batala. However, the bullets reportedly struck a neighboring house instead of the intended target. Taking the matter seriously, senior police officials constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case.
The team included SP PBI Raman, DSP city, 4 CIA and SHO civil line. With the efoorts of them team , the accused were traced and 2 of them were arrested. During the investigation, it was found that a total of 5 members were included in this crime. Police arrested two accused identified as Baldev Singh and Kayal Singh, resident of village Khajal whose involvement in the firing incident allegedly came to light. During questioning, Baldev Singh revealed that he had hidden the pistol used in the crime near a canal close to village Manes, near Udhanwal village.
When the police took the accused to the spot for the recovery of the weapon, he allegedly opened fire on the police party taking advantage of the rain in an attempt to escape. Acting in self-defense, the police retaliated. During the exchange of fire, one bullet struck the accused in the leg, leaving him injured. Police immediately overpowered the accused and shifted him to the Civil Hospital in Batala for treatment and has been declared stable. The weapon involved in the case was also recovered from the spot.
Speaking on the incident, Batala SSP Mehtab Singh said that the accused are involved in other cases of crime as well. He warned the public and miscreants that strict action will be taken against those who commit crime in Batala. He also added that any kind of support of money or weapons to such criminals will not be entertained. Families and friends of such miscreants who are equally involved will be taken action over. Upon asking the police official, it was found out that the the person behind the incident is sitting abroad and is manipulating young locals to act upon the plan. Further investigation into the case is underway and forensic reports may put light on major aspects of the case.
