The district administration has ordered a one-day ban on the sale of meat and eggs across Jalandhar on March 31, 2026 on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti and these orders were issued by Additional District Magistrate Amaninder Kaur under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Protection Code 2023.
Sale of meat and eggs will remain completely banned for one day and the order will be applicable across the entire Jalandhar district. Officials said the decision has been taken to maintain respect for religious sentiments linked to Mahavir Jayanti which is an important festival for the Jain community.
Residents and shopkeepers have been asked to follow the orders strictly and authorities have warned that action may be taken against those who violate the ban.
