A theft took place in Gaddowali village under the jurisdiction of Lambra Police Station in Jalandhar. The incident occurred around 2 am, when thieves allegedly broke into a house and fled with gold jewellery and cash.
Details of the incident
Sharing details of the incident, family head Gurmeet Ram said that at around 2 am, he had woken up to use the washroom. At that time, everything appeared normal. The thieves later entered the house after breaking a window. Gurmeet Ram said he was sleeping in the adjacent room when the incident took place. He also heard the sound of the window glass breaking but ignored it, assuming it was a normal noise.
Series of events
Gurmeet Ram said he usually wakes up between 5 am and 5:15 am. On Saturday morning, at around 5:15 am, when he opened the door of his room to step outside, it would not open. Suspecting something was wrong, he pushed the door forcefully and managed to open it. He found a large table placed outside the door.
He then went to check the room and found that the cupboard was open, clothes were scattered around, and the locker had been broken. Upon checking their belongings, the family discovered that gold jewellery and cash were missing from the house.
Investigation of the case
Since there are fields behind the house, the thieves allegedly used that route to enter and escape. Their footprints were clearly visible in the wet soil. The thieves appeared to have entered the house barefoot, and signs of them slipping were also visible at several spots.
The family is also checking CCTV footage from nearby houses in an attempt to identify the suspects. According to Gurmeet Ram, the thieves broke open the cupboard and escaped with around 2 tolas of gold jewellery and ₹40,000 in cash. The stolen jewellery includes a gold chain, rings and earrings.
Money for marriage
Gurmeet Ram said one of his sons is already married, while the other is yet to get married. He had been saving money for his younger son’s wedding and had collected ₹40,000 in cash, including ₹100, ₹50, ₹20 and ₹10 notes.
A complaint has been lodged with the Lambra Police. The victim has appealed to the police to trace the thieves at the earliest and recover the stolen jewellery and cash.
