A family in Uday Nagar, Jalandhar, returned home after a one-day visit to Vrindavan to find their house allegedly ransacked by thieves. The burglars reportedly broke the locks of rooms and cupboards and escaped with around ₹1.5 lakh in cash and 5–6 tolas of gold jewellery.

The incident came to light when the family returned home on Friday afternoon. Although the main gate was still closed, they noticed signs of forced entry inside the house.

Clothes thrown out, mattresses searched

According to the family, the thieves thoroughly searched the house. Locks of cupboards and rooms were found broken, while clothes had been pulled out and scattered.

The burglars reportedly even lifted mattresses while searching for valuables. Drawers of the dressing table were also broken open and searched.

Gold sets, chains and other jewellery stolen

A resident of Uday Nagar, said the family had gone to Vrindavan for darshan for just one day. On returning, they discovered that around ₹1.5 lakh kept inside the cupboards was missing.

The stolen jewellery reportedly includes two to three gold sets, earrings belonging to the daughters, rings, gold chains, bangles and other ornaments, collectively weighing around 5–6 tolas, according to the family.

The family also runs a grocery shop from their residence.

Police begin investigation, CCTV footage being checked

Following the incident, the family informed the police. The SHO and a police team reached the spot and inspected the house.

Police are now checking CCTV footage from nearby houses and roads in an attempt to identify the suspects and establish their movements before and after the theft. Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
