As per reports, the family members were protesting against a travel agency near Jalandhar Bus Stand. The family accused the travel agency of duping them of Rs 6.5 lakh.
As per the family, a Travel Agent near Jalandhar Bus Stand had promise them UK Visa for their daughter that never came. The family allegedly paid travel agency Rs 6.5 lakh.
It has been alleged that the travel agency had demanded Rs 9 lakh for sending their daughter to the UK. The family had paid Rs 6.5 lakh. Even after a year, neither their daughter has been sent abroad nor has the money been refunded.
The victim's mother reported that Rs 6.5 lakh was paid to immigration officials a year ago for the UK trip. This payment was made partly through a bank account and partly through a check.
The family alleges that immigration officials are now claiming their daughter's visa has been rejected, but are not returning their money. Angered by this, the family took to the streets and protested.
After traffic jam started to build, police officials reached the spot and reopened the road. The matter is currently under investgation. Police are speaking with immigration staff regarding the matter.
