The Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has ordered a comprehensive assessment of crop damage following unseasonal rainfall across the state. Providing details, Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian said that more than 500 officials and employees of the Agriculture Department have been deployed to assess the extent of losses.
He informed that dedicated teams have been stationed in seven affected districts, including 145 Group-A officers, to ensure a thorough and time-bound evaluation of the damage. According to preliminary reports, wheat crops spread over more than 1.25 lakh acres are estimated to have been affected due to the untimely rains.
The minister further stated that officials have been directed to coordinate closely with the Revenue Department to conduct special girdawari (field inspection) to accurately document losses and facilitate relief measures for farmers.
