A 26-year-old man who had returned to his native village from the US around two months ago died in a tragic road accident on the Nadala-Begowal Road on Friday evening.
The accident took place around 6 pm near Dayal Singh Timber Store when a KTM motorcycle collided with a truck carrying sacks of paddy. The deceased was identified as Manpreet Singh, son of Chanchal Singh, a resident of Talwandi Kooka.
According to Nadala police post in-charge Baljinder Singh, the police received information about the collision between truck number PB-11-AM-6550 and KTM motorcycle number PB-70-F-2286. The truck had reportedly been loaded with paddy sacks at a rice sheller, while Manpreet was travelling from Nadala towards his village.
Manpreet dies at the spot
The collision left Manpreet with critical injuries. He reportedly suffered severe blood loss and died at the scene before he could be taken for treatment.
Police took the truck and the deceased's body into custody and began an investigation. Statements of family members are being recorded, and further legal action will be taken based on their statements.
Police also reportedly removed the truck from the rice sheller as part of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
‘He was a very good person’
Village sarpanch Harjinder Singh said Manpreet had returned from the US only about two months ago. He described him as a very good-natured person with strong religious beliefs, saying his sudden death had left the village in shock.
The news of the accident triggered grief among residents of Talwandi Kooka, with villagers demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to the collision and appropriate action against the truck driver if negligence is established.
