Fresh posters targeting former Punjab Chief Minister and Congress MP Charanjit Singh Channi have appeared at Company Bagh on Lawrence Road in Amritsar, bringing the ongoing internal differences within the Punjab Congress into public view once again.
The posters were put up at Company Bagh, a well-known park in a posh area of Amritsar where many residents visit every morning for walks and exercise and as the park is a busy public place, the posters quickly drew attention.
According to the information available, the posters were allegedly put up by some Congress workers from Amritsar. One of the posters carries a message addressed to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi which reads, "All Congress workers have one appeal to Rahul Gandhi: Remove Channi from the Congress", while another poster questions Channi over his alleged trust in the BJP which reads, "Channi ji, why did you believe in BJP? Come forward, Channi ji."
The messages displayed on the posters indicate dissatisfaction among a section of Congress workers and have once again brought the party's internal differences into the spotlight and the development comes at a time when discussions over factionalism within the Punjab Congress continue. The appearance of such posters in a prominent public location suggests that the differences within the state unit remain unresolved.
So far, no official statement has been issued regarding the posters by Charanjit Singh Channi, Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, or the Congress party and the incident has once again highlighted the continuing infighting within the Punjab Congress, with the public display of posters adding another chapter to the party's internal political tensions.
The latest incident comes as the power struggle between the Channi and Warring camps continues to grow inside the Punjab Congress and at the same time, the All India Congress Committee's OBC Department announced a major organisational decision. The entire Punjab Pradesh OBC Congress state committee has been dissolved with immediate effect and the decision cancels the posts of the entire executive body, including the state president of the OBC cell.
On the other hand, Raja Warring has made it clear that he will not resign from the post of Punjab Congress president, while he had earlier said that party positions were not important to him, he has now stated that the party high command has not asked him to step down.
During his visit to Muktsar, Warring also claimed that some people from within his own party wanted him killed.
Supporters of Channi earlier put up posters demanding that Raja Warring and Punjab Congress in-charge Bhupesh Baghel leave. In response, posters appeared calling Channi an RSS agent.
